FUTO CE-sPESS was established by the Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement (SPESSE) programme in 2019 by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in partnership with the World Bank. The primary object of SPESSE programme is capacity building to integrate Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards’ professionalization within the Nigerian public and private sectors to enhance sustainable development and value for money in public expenditure.
Biography
Education and Academic Background
Prof. Chukwudebe Gloria is a distinguished scholar in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, holding a Ph.D. from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, completed between 1988 and 1992. She earned her Master of Engineering (M.Eng) in Electronic Engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, from 1983 to 1985, following her Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) in the same field at the same institution from 1976 to 1981. Prof. Chukwudebe’s academic journey began with her West African School Certificate (WASC), where she achieved Grade One Distinction at Queen’s School Enugu, Nigeria, from 1971 to 1976.
Professional Experience
With a robust career spanning several key leadership roles, Prof. Chukwudebe has made significant contributions to the field of engineering education. She served as the Head of the Electrical/Electronic Engineering Department at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) from 1999 to 2005. In her role as the Pioneer Dean of the School of Information and Communication Technology, she was instrumental in establishing the governance structure and academic programs. Currently, she is the Director of the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Procurement, Environmental, and Social Standards at FUTO.
A dedicated educator, Prof. Chukwudebe teaches electronic and computer engineering courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her expertise is reflected in numerous publications and presentations at national and international conferences, where she has shared her research and insights.
Contributions and Involvement
Beyond her academic duties, Prof. Chukwudebe is an active participant in the engineering community. She has served as an invited guest speaker for various organizations in Nigeria, sharing her knowledge and inspiring future generations. As a committed volunteer with the IEEE, she held the position of Chair for the IEEE Nigeria Section from 2011 to 2015 and served as the Pro-Tem for the IEEE Africa Council from 2018 to 2019. Her favorite publication, IEEE Spectrum, reflects her ongoing engagement with current trends and advancements in engineering.
