Biography
Professor Chris Obioma Nwoko is a distinguished academic and researcher in the field of Environmental Technology, currently serving as a Professor at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria. Born on April 27, 1971, in Umuahia, Abia State, he is a Nigerian national with a robust educational background, holding a Ph.D. in Environmental Biology from the University of Ibadan, where he also earned his M.Sc. His undergraduate degree in Botany was awarded by the University of Calabar.
With over two decades of academic experience, Professor Nwoko has made significant contributions to environmental management, focusing on areas such as waste management, restoration ecology, and pollution control. His doctoral research on the bioaugmentation of palm oil mill effluent with nitrifying bacteria showcases his commitment to addressing environmental challenges through innovative solutions.
Professor Nwoko’s scholarly work is underscored by numerous publications and patents, and he has presented at various international conferences, advocating for sustainable development and environmental protection. He has also attracted substantial research grants, including an $11 million World Bank grant aimed at enhancing procurement and environmental standards.
In addition to his teaching and research duties, Professor Nwoko has held various administrative roles, including Deputy Director of the World Bank Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Procurement, Environment, and Social Standards at FUTO.
